Bubonic plague is spread when an infected flea bites a person, or when a material contaminated with Y. pestis makes its way into an organism. Fleas are the main cause of Bubonic plague. The infected fleas latch onto rats, which transport the disease. The Bubonic Plague then starts its silent evolution into the Septicemic and Pneumonic Plagues.
